Brian broke into the wrong house. The man who lived there, a counselor named Samuel, had every reason to press charges and did not. He intervened instead.

What follows is the slow, unglamorous work of a man trying to get out from under an addiction that has shaped his whole adult life. Samuel is an unconventional counselor and not an easy one. Angela, Brian’s girlfriend, stays when staying costs her something. Neither of them can do the work for him.

The film takes its central image from the thorns and briars Brian keeps walking back into, and the crown of thorns worn in his place. A story about grace arriving through people who had no obligation to offer it.

Stephen Wesley Green as Brian, Curtis Nichouls as Samuel, and Ann Sweezer Rogers as Angela, with an appearance by recording artist Canton Jones. Directed by Johnny Meier.
