Read Matthew 16:13-20. Jesus asked his disciples two questions: “Who do people say that I am?” and “Who do you say that I am?” What are some things people say about God or about Jesus today? Who do you think Jesus is and why?

Simon Peter said that he believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. The truth that Jesus is God’s Son, that he is God’s chosen King, is the solid foundation on which Jesus’ kingdom is built. Even death—”the gates of hades” in Matthew 16:18—can not destroy Jesus’ kingdom!
