In 1980 an Arizona Highway Patrol officer named Frank Shankwitz heard about a seven-year-old boy with leukemia who wanted one thing before he died: to be a motorcycle cop. Shankwitz and a handful of others made it happen. They had a uniform made, swore the boy in, and gave him wings.

The boy died a few days later. What Shankwitz started in response became the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which has granted more than 450,000 wishes since.

WISH MAN tells the story behind that, including the part Shankwitz rarely talked about: a hard childhood, a father he was separated from as a boy, and the people along the way who showed him kindness he had no reason to expect. An Air Force veteran turned highway patrolman who had been given very little, and built something out of it anyway.

Andrew Steel as Frank Shankwitz, with Robert Pine, Bruce Davison, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Danny Trejo, and Frank Whaley. Written and directed by Theo Davies.

Based on a true story.
