A Roman soldier was hired to strike the man playing Jesus. When the moment came he broke down in tears and apologized. He couldn’t do it. This is what happened when Jonathan Roumie played the crucifixion of Christ so completely that the people around him forgot it was a performance.

📌Spotlight Moments:
-Roumie prayed to feel a fraction of Christ’s suffering before filming — and dislocated his cross-carrying shoulder on day one
-Ten hour days of scourging scenes left real marks on his body every single night — foam props swung by men built like Roman soldiers
-A hired Italian actor broke down weeping mid-scene and apologized — he couldn’t bring himself to strike the man playing Jesus
-The BTS video from Matera Italy has been watched over 2 million times — Mary Magdalene weeping between takes, Dallas Jenkins held up by his wife unable to speak
-Months after filming Roumie described sitting in Mass, looking up at a crucifix, and beginning to weep uncontrollably — his own word for what it did to him was PTSD
-He offered every moment of real physical pain as a sacrifice — “for the benefit of souls and people that are suffering”

He wasn’t performing suffering from a safe distance. He was actually entering into it on purpose. The crew wept because they were watching something real happen to a real person right in front of them. And the world hasn’t even seen the footage yet.
