Watch “Out of Egypt” right here:

Go behind the scenes with the Appian Media team as we travel through Egypt and Jordan to produce Out of Egypt—one of the most ambitious, difficult, and rewarding productions we’ve ever attempted.

Over two intense weeks, our small crew traveled by planes, trains, ferries, 4x4s, boats, and even camels as we followed the story of the Exodus from the Nile and the ancient sites of Egypt, across the Red Sea, into the wilderness, and ultimately to Mount Nebo in Jordan. Along the way, we filmed in crowded Cairo markets, made bricks by hand, explored the massive Temple of Karnak, climbed Mount Sinai for sunrise, crossed the Red Sea, and filmed in the deserts of Jordan.
But making Out of Egypt was anything but easy. Changing permits, unpredictable locations, exhausting travel days, extremely early mornings, late nights, and the realities of filming in unfamiliar places constantly forced the team to adapt. Sometimes that even meant abandoning our normal cameras and filming an entire scene on our phones just to capture an unexpected opportunity.

This production pushed our team physically and creatively, but it also gave us experiences—and stories—we’ll never forget. Join us for an honest, funny, and occasionally chaotic look at what it took to make Out of Egypt, from our first day of travel to our final shoot overlooking the Promised Land from Mount Nebo.
