Among the parables of Jesus recorded in scripture, none has resonated across the centuries and among many cultures more than the tale he told in Luke 15:11-32. It has been labeled with several different titles, including The Lost Son, The Loving Father, and The Forgiving Father. It has been memorialized in engravings, paintings, stained glass, sculptures, operas, ballets, stage plays, popular music, poetry, and literature… by artists like Shakespeare, Debussy, Balanchine, Prokofiev, Kipling, and Rembrandt.
