Calk, a U.S. Army veteran and founder of a Chicago-based community bank, whose 2016 loan decisions during the Trump presidential campaign led to a federal bribery prosecution, a nationally covered trial, and a conviction that upended his career and reputation.

Through interviews with Calk, his family, colleagues, and public figures including actors Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo, the film investigates a case its subjects argue was never really about banking — but about what happens when an ordinary American becomes politically visible at the wrong moment. Calk, a self-described political independent, calls what happened to him “lawfare” — the justice system used as a political weapon. Whether or not you agree, his story raises hard questions about prosecutorial power, media narrative, and what it costs to be caught in the middle of national politics.
