Lee’s Story
Summary
My father died about eleven years ago, and on his deathbed he asked that I take care of my younger sister who has MS. With no one available in Los Angeles and the high cost of living there, I decided to move to North Carolina—a decision that wasn’t easy as my sister did not like it and the adjustment was rough for several months. I struggled deeply with her anger and bitterness, feeling the weight of her illness on me. Overwhelmed, I reached a point where I needed help and turned to a prayer group. Through that community and the support of my good, selfless friends, I found hope. I discovered that when life gets tough, I could always return to the welcoming comfort of the Apex campus near my home, where I could work on my computer or hit the gym, and most importantly, feel encouraged and supported. I am truly grateful for this place and the friends who have helped me keep moving forward.
