Hazel begged God for one thing: “Don’t let me have a stroke.” Then a brain aneurysm ruptured in her head — and she had four massive strokes in a row.

It was November 9, 2009. A retired nurse in Kelowna, Hazel sat down on the edge of her bed and screamed from a pain “like a hot poker searing in my brain.” Within hours she was airlifted to Vancouver. The surgery worked — but 30 hours later she started throwing clots. The surgeon told her son to turn the car around: she wasn’t going to make it. Doctors gave her a 50% chance of survival, and even then, in a vegetative state.

But across provinces, prayer warriors mobilized. And Hazel — fading in and out of consciousness — felt every single prayer like a warm blanket settling over her body. What happened next defied every statistic the doctors quoted.
