Scott grew up in a house where dinner happened in front of a TV and
God never came up. At 13, somebody handed him a beer — and his dad
stood at the top of the staircase, looked at him, and walked back up
without a word. That started a tradition that lasted until he was 23.

He bought his wife at a charity auction for $14. He closed bars at
3 a.m. and sat in a church pew at 8:30. And years later, in a dark
room 8,000 miles from home with his hands closed, he learned to
recognize a voice — one that would eventually say two words he didn’t
understand…

Today Scott has walked away from being a senior pastor to stand
full-time on a sidewalk.
