At 10AM in a maximum security prison cell, Joe Wilkins was seconds from jumping to his death, until he heard a voice call him by his full name: “Joseph, I love you. Just the way you are.”

Joe’s mother died of cancer when he was 15. Three years later, on his 18th birthday, he threw a dime at his father in anger — and days later, his dad was murdered before he could apologize. Drowning in drugs, shame, and a 40-foot drop he intended to take, Joe met the One who had been pursuing him his entire life. What happened that Mother’s Day morning in 1977 changed the trajectory of thousands of prisoners’ lives, and it all started with one still, small voice.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God can reach you in your darkest moment, this story will rebuild your faith in a God who actually shows up.
