When you sit behind a camera, you get a front-row seat to the grace of God. That’s exactly what happened when we sat down in the living room with Ken and Sharmila.

Sharmila knows what poverty actually looks like. She lived it in Sri Lanka… sitting on a porch with her siblings, splitting a small bag of chips for the day. She knows the ache of being separated from her family. And she knows the quiet hope of looking up at a statue of Jesus on the cross as a child… and realizing Jesus was going to make sure she was okay.

Fast forward a few decades. Compassion Sunday at Church on the Rock.

The plan was simple… sponsor one child. But God is in the details. He placed three specific packets on a table. Packets the Compassion team said weren’t even supposed to be in the box that day. Three children from Sri Lanka. Three children who looked exactly like Sharmila’s past.

They didn’t hesitate. They took all three.

Ken will be the first to tell you… giving up one dinner out a month is a small price to pay to change a life forever.

God doesn’t waste our pain. He weaves it into His redemptive purpose. We loved capturing this story because it’s a beautiful, raw reminder of what happens when we simply say yes to what Jesus is doing.

Take a few minutes to watch their story. Then, pray about how God might be asking you to step into the gap for a child in need.
