Max Bernal is a stand-up comic whose career has stalled and whose marriage has ended. He is living with his father and co-parenting his eleven-year-old son Ezra, who is autistic, with an ex-wife who is managing better than he is.

After an incident at school, doctors and the court want Ezra in a specialized program and on medication Max does not believe he needs. So Max puts him in the car and drives, heading west toward an audition that could restart his career, with no legal authority to have taken him at all. What follows is a cross-country trip that forces Max to stop managing his son and start listening to him.

Bobby Cannavale as Max, with Robert De Niro as his father, Rose Byrne as Ezra’s mother, and Vera Farmiga, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rainn Wilson. William A. Fitzgerald, who is autistic, plays Ezra in his first film role. Directed by Tony Goldwyn, written by Tony Spiridakis, with autistic cast and crew throughout the production.
