Ingredients
Premade Pie Crust (2 Rolls from a store-bought package)
Huckleberry Jam
Apple Butter
Thin Apple Slices coated in Cinnamon Sugar
1 Egg (Beaten)
1 TBSP of White Sugar
Let’s Bake: Ask a parent to preheat your oven to Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes
Step 1: Roll out the dough
Lightly dust your work surface with flour and roll out your pie crust with a rolling pin.
Cut the pies into 5×5 inch squares.
Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out 3 hearts.
Step 2: Add the filling
Spoon 1 Β½ teaspoons of huckleberry jam into the center of one of the squares.
Spoon 1 Β½ teaspoons of apple butter onto another square and add thin apple slices coated in cinnamon sugar on top of the apple butter
Step 4: Fold the envelope
Using a pastry brush, brush the edges of the pies with a bit of water.
Fold the left, right, and bottom corners in toward the center, just like you’re closing a little envelope. Leave the top flap open so you can see some of that sweet jam peeking out. Place a dough heart on the front, right where the folds meet, and press gently to stick. Place the pies on a baking sheet
lined with parchment paper.
Step 5: Add the Sparkle
Right when they come out of the oven, lightly brush the hot pastries with water and sprinkle some sugar Let them cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
