Summary

Summaryβ€œI was 24 when I arrived behind bars, angry and refusing Jesus. But one day in 2013, a sister invited me to church. As I stepped inside, I felt a fire in my heart πŸ”₯. God whispered that He loved and forgave meβ€”though I thought I didn’t deserve it. I surrendered my life to Jesus and began to change. I prayed desperately to see my children again, and one day I didβ€”my baby was now a teen πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§. When my mom and grandmother passed, grief hit hard 😒, yet God filled me with peace. Today, my body remains in these bars, but my heart is free πŸ•ŠοΈ.”

β€œI’m in prison physically, but my heart is free.”

Maria went to prison when she was 24 years old. She didn’t really know Jesus, but once she was incarcerated, she decided didn’t want to know anything about Him. Another inmate invited her to church, and after refusing a few times, she finally went in 2013. Maria felt like she didn’t deserve the love of God, but after experiencing Him in prison, she invited God to use her life, and she is now totally transformed. God Behind Bars
2.3 million people in the U.S. are affected by incarceration each year, the most unchurched population in our country. We are on a mission to change that. We will stop at nothing to ensure every inmate in the U.S. has direct and personal access to the Gospel. We want to help them grow their faith, heal trauma and emotional wounds, break addictions and cycles, and allow every person behind bars to step into their calling as sons and daughters of the Most High. It’s a simple fact that less than 15% of inmates are serving life sentences, and up to as many as 90% of all incarcerated individuals will be released back to society at some point. 75% of those released will return to prison within three years. God Behind Bars addresses this drastic recidivism problem with a unique approach that focuses on the spiritual, physical, and relational needs of inmates and their families.
