Former Marijuana Dealer Finds Redemption – Travis Adams – A Grace Encounter
Summary
My name is Travis Adams. I spent years trapped in the destructive cycle of drug addiction—growing marijuana with friends and chasing quick money—until one night when, unable to sleep, I heard the unmistakable voice of God commanding me to change my life. That moment forced me to leave everything behind and move back in with my mom, where I began devouring Andrew Wommack’s free teachings. Through His Gospel Truth, I discovered that God’s love isn’t based on our performance, but is a freely given gift. Even after enduring a violent attack that left me beaten and nearly dead, I clung to the scripture declaring that I would not die but live and declare God’s glory. Miraculously, I recovered in the hospital, and that same revelation spurred me to pursue a new life at Charis Bible College in Colorado. Today, I work in ministry and share my testimony so that others might know that no one is ever too far gone to be redeemed by Jesus.

Travis Adams found God while in rehab but didn’t understand the Grace that God had for him. Living in fear of God’s anger, he fell back into the same patterns of sin and failure. Until one day he came across the free teachings of Andrew Wommack.
Travis intended to do good, but when he moved in with a friend, they started growing marijuana together. One night Travis was tossing and turning, unable to sleep, and asked God what was wrong. God told him, “You know what to do.” Insisting that he couldn’t do what was asked of him, Travis heard again, “You need to do this now!” So, he got up in that moment, packed a bag, and left everything else behind.
Moving back in with his mom, he rediscovered a hunger for the Word of God. While flipping through the channels one day, he came across Andrew Wommack’s Gospel Truth program, where Andrew was saying that God isn’t mad, He’s not even in a bad mood. Travis, knowing that God was speaking to him through Andrew, fell to his knees and wept. He received freedom right there on his living room floor.
It was at that time that he first heard of Charis Bible College as well as God’s leading to go there. He took down the ministry’s information and ordered some of Andrew’s free materials, like God’s Kind of Love, A Better Way to Pray, and You’ve Already Got It. He was consumed with Andrew Wommack’s teachings, and as he read, he became more and more sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
He started hearing in his spirit, the verse which says, “You shall not die but live, and declare the glory of God.” Unsure of what it meant, he brought the verse to his small group leader, Steve, asking for his insight. Steve wasn’t sure why Travis would be hearing this but encouraged him to seek God’s wisdom on it.
A week later, Travis went to visit an old friend from his past, hoping to share his newfound faith. While driving over, he felt God telling him not to go. Thinking maybe God thought he would be getting back into drugs, he shrugged it off, as that wasn’t the intention of his trip. Later that night, after Travis returned home, the same friend that he had gone to visit came to his home, planning to murder Travis. The man knocked Travis over the head with a crowbar and dragged his body into a nearby field, where he continued to beat him with the crowbar, ultimately leaving him there to die.
Three days later, Travis woke up in the hospital. Steve was there with the doctors and reminded him of the verse that God had given him: “You shall not die but live and declare the glory of God.” Travis declared this verse over himself, again and again, until 12 days later he walked out of the hospital, completely healed. His attacker was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Through people in his church, it was confirmed to Travis that it was time to go to Charis Bible College. He packed up and moved to Colorado, ready for what God had for him. He had no money for school but learned to live by faith as God continually provided finances. Travis started working for the Phone Center at Andrew Wommack Ministries and also became the warehouse manager for Messenger International, shipping out materials by John and Lisa Bevere. Andrew Wommack and John Bevere had both been spiritual fathers to Travis, and he was blessed to be able to support their ministries.
The message of Grace radically transformed Travis’ life and finally set him free. Thank you to our partners that help to provide free materials to people like Travis, giving them hope for a better future.
