Columbian Widow forgives Husband’s Killer
Kelly Saenz is a young woman in her thirties living in Columbia and was the loving wife to Pabel Saenz. They fell in love over their joint experience of God’s work in their lives and were married in 2008. Kelly and her husband were dedicated to spreading the gospel in Columbia, and Pabel was inspired and mentored by Russell Stendal, a missionary who had been kidnapped, arrested and threatened during his forty years of ministry in Columbia. On Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 Kelly’s husband Pabel went into a dangerous area of Columbia, and he never returned. After three days of searching for him, Kelly heard that her husband had been killed.
Kelly received the news of her husband’s death over a phone call from the chief of the Indian guard. She later found out that he had been choked to death with the strap of his messenger bag. She went to the territory where her husband was killed on Wednesday afternoon to meet with the village, and at that council meeting two nephews of the chief confessed to killing her husband but refused to say why. Kelly is sure that it was because of her husband’s Christian beliefs. During that meeting Kelly had a chance to confront the two men, and as she was walking towards them she heard a voice inside her say, “This is the moment that I need to see your testimony of me. The fruit of everything that you and your husband have been doing in the past years.” During that meeting, she began to preach to the people with the Lord giving her the words to say. She later went back to the village with boxes and boxes of Bibles, and now she continues her husband’s legacy to continue to deliver the gospel to the people of Colombia.
