You will see the story of Alqosh, Iraq as Solidarity with the Persecuted Church sees it: Alqosh is 9 miles North of the front lines of the Islamic State in the Nineveh Plain, Iraq. Since ISIS captured the Plain in 2015, hundreds of thousands of refugees left the area. Alqosh, the entirely Christian city has remained in the face of ISIS advance. Christian leaders in the area try to preserve their flock, as wel las shelter the large number of refugees they have seen come into the city.
Alqosh is thought to have home to the Jewish prophet Nahum, whose writings comprise a book of the Old Testament and date from the 7th century BC. Alqosh also houses the Monastery of St. Hormizd, built in the 7th century AD.
