SummaryI grew up around church, but I chased control—over my future, my image, my worth. In high school I slid from anorexia into bulimia, propping up a “perfect” athlete exterior while I was crumbling inside. My freshman year at LSU brought headlines—even a 90-yard goal—and I saw my dad beaming with joy. Then everything shattered. On January 3, 2009, my father died by suicide. The grief and anger drove me far from God and deep into depression and numbing behaviors. I held onto one promise of purity, but I was empty. Almost a year later, exhausted on a long drive, I prayed, “If Your love is real, show me.” Moments later I lost control of my Jeep and crashed. Hanging upside down, bleeding and alone, I felt the Holy Spirit wrap me in indescribable peace. In that wreck, God met me. He preserved my life and restored my ability to play, but more than that—He restored my heart. Now I rejoice even through adversity (Romans 5:3-5): trials birthed perseverance, character, and hope that does not fail. I live unashamed for Jesus—surrendered, bold, and free.

Jesus promises peace and trouble for His followers. But most of us accept the peace and are confused and angry when adversity comes our way, turning our backs to God in the midst of our pain. All-American soccer star Mo Isom knows the struggle firsthand. While her life seemed like a success on the surface, behind closed doors she was suffering through an eating disorder, the suicide of her father, and a horrific car accident. It wasn’t until God wrecked her life that she finally found life and discovered the true glory of renewal through Jesus Christ.
