I’m John Erickson, and my life’s journey is a testimony of God’s guiding hand. Growing up in a small Texas ranch community, I was surrounded by the rich tradition of storytelling and a deep Christian worldview instilled in me by my mother. Despite challenges in the literary world and even a stint at Harvard Divinity School, I discovered that God had a unique plan for my creativity. My path led me from working as a cowboy to self‐publishing the Hank the Cowdog series—a series that not only became a beloved children’s classic (selling over 10 million copies) but also reflected the values and humor derived from my faith. In sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to pursue their creative callings while remaining true to the Kingdom of God.

I grew up facing significant hardships, including an abusive father and financial struggles at home. At 16, I knelt at a church altar, realizing my deep need for Jesus. From that day, God guided every aspect of my life—taking me from a shy and broken teenager to a lawyer, then a foster mother to many teenage girls, and finally into the political arena. I served in the Minnesota Senate and later in the U.S. Congress, even launching a presidential campaign, all by God’s leading. Through every challenge—whether it was overcoming fatherly abuse, financial poverty, or the demands of public office—I felt God’s transformative power. Today, He continues to use my faith journey to open doors globally, reminding me that His Spirit can guide anyone toward extraordinary influence and purpose.
