Summary

Cal Aldrink shares his journey of faith, sparked by a near-death experience after falling from a flagpole. This life-changing event inspired him to erect a cross near Grand Valley University, symbolizing redemption and God’s love for humanity. The cross stood as a beacon of hope and faith until it was taken down after Cal’s passing. His story is a powerful reminder of God’s mercy, grace, and the call to share the Gospel with others.

Cal Aldrink, (original owner of the facility now available for public use: North Grand Ravines County Park, Ottawa County, MI) shares the story behind the cross on the Grand River near Grand Valley State University (Now THE GRAND RAVINES NORTH COUNTRY PARK: https://www.michigan.org/property/grand-ravines-north-south). Cal was videotaped by Norm Rasmussen on October 19, 2005.

Cal Aldrink passed away a few years back, and the property the cross was located on was sold to the county. The county has now turned the property into a County Park for all to enjoy (Grand Ravines Park). Because of legalities, the cross was torn down and is no more. Cal shared with me that if the cross were ever to be torn down, it was his prayer that OTHER property owners along the Grand River might place a cross on THEIR property/properties as a reminder of what God accomplished for them by giving us His Son, Jesus Christ, as an atonement for our sins, that we might be restored to God with His fullest forgiveness and blessings.

The cross brother Cal had erected was meant to stay where it was located, but gubment policy sadly brought it down after Cal’s passing once the property got sold to the county. Cal’s son Byron tried everything he could to find another property owner along the Grand River willing to replant the cross, but found no one willing to do so. Thus the cross went back to eventual dust.

However – THIS cross will NEVER be torn down in the recollection of every created being:
